Lesley, a plump girl from Manchester and Madonna, living parallel lives.. well almost…for Lesley is fourteen and just wants to lose her virginity like all the other girls at school, unfortunately she isnt like them, she thinks too much…Choosing to leave home at sixteen to live with grandparents in London, Lesley follows Madonna’s every move, even to New York, before a final fateful meeting with her idol proves that life might not be all she thought it was.






Excerpt from TOUCHED…FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME:

LESLEY
I’m different from all the other kids at school.
The first reason I’m different is that my mother is a feminist. Since Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister women can do anything. Mum said-
MUM
“It wasn’t Maggie who did that, it was Germaine Greer and Erica Jong”-
LESLEY
The women who wrote the books that she reads. All mum’s books are covered in dust because she doesn’t do any cleaning. When I asked her why, she said-
MUM
“Because I believe in equality”.
LESLEY
So I ran my finger along the dusty mantelpiece and said-
“Yeah well equality appears to be filthy”.
